The new addition to our family!
Posted under Personal | 16 Comments
Yesterday Ken finally had a day off so we went to the vet to give Curly his annual shots and do our normal grocery shopping. We had no idea we were going to end up coming home with a black cutie, only 4 weeks old =] We had consider adopting a puppy for quite some time now, but Ken wanted a German shepherd very bad. Even tho we were unsure of committing right now with a puppy we went down to the a place we checked online because they had a few shepherd puppies listed online, when we got there we only found a few puppies that had just being abandoned a week before.
The puppies were adorable!! One of them was a ver light brown a the other 2 were black, they are Boarder Collie mix with something we will not know until it get’s bigger. We just fell in love with this little guy, completely forgot about what kind of dog we were looking for because it was like he found us. And after 15 minutes decided to bring him home with us and named him Conner.
He loves to sleep as you can see and loves to have our attention. He is so little he can’t climb up the stairs but that does not stop him because he tries and tries until someone helps him.
He loves going to the yard an run all over chasing curly, it’s like he already knows curly is the big brother, he bites everything he can and for some reason loves the door fence as you can see below.
Curly and Conner are still in the process of getting to know each other, it’s only been a day but Curly looks over him and lays right in fron, but he doesn’t really like when Conner licks him, Curly was very good at that and stopped licking when he was about 1 year old, so now that he is 13 years old, I’m pretty sure he thinks it’s childish LOL
Curly smells him every chance he has and of course Conner goes into kissing him every time he has – So cute! It’s so funny to see them walking in our yard Conner always next to Curly, just like brothers.
Now comes the challenging part for us, I almost forgot what it was to potty train a poppy and he’s so small sometimes is hard to find him in the house because he loves to explore, so we had to puppy prove the house. We are so excited to see him grow and so happy we decided to adopt him. We took him over to Ken’s parents and they loved him =] For some reason the very first thing he did was grab his grandparent’s dog rope toy and start playing with it even tho it was probably twice his size. Do you guys have any puppy advice?

so darn adorable! congratulations! I hope you guys are trouble free of all early weaning issues too (our dog still has a few problems since she was taken away from mom at 6 weeks)!!!
What a cutie! Congrats on your new puppy
Well congratulations!!! Absolutely adorable!
EEEEEEEEEEEEE, that is such an adorable puppy, I wanna take him home with me!! Congrats!
As for puppy potty training, we used a crate to teach ours since puppies automatically know not to mess where they sleep. We kept her in the crate whenever we left the apartment and at night but it took her until about 4 months old to be fully housebroken…Good thing they’re so cute that it’s worth it!
That last pic is just adorable. So, so sweet!
He is adorable! This post makes me want another dog.
Oh. My. Lord. He is the CUTEST!!!!!!!!!! As for as puppy tips, my mom swears by the Dog Whisperer books. She had never trained a dog before and got one very shortly after deciding to get one. Also, my friend’s tiny kitten kept getting lost in her apartment (she was late to work once because she couldn’t find him! haha), so she put a bell on his collar. Hope that helps!
He is soooooo cute!!! Congratulations! I love the photo of him and Curly where he has his tongue sticking out.
Eek! A puppy ::melts::! We have a border collie mix also, and as hyper as they are, they are very wonderful dogs. Super smart too…you would be very surprised how fast they catch on!
OMG!! he’s sooooo cute! it looks like you guys like pet names starting with “C”
So cute!!!
Omigoooosh! So cute!
Sooooo cute!!!!! makes me want one too! lol
I just have one tip for you… if he ever poops in the house, after cleaning it, do put some drops of lemon juice. He will automatically stop doing it there again! I tested that with my dog when he was a puppy.
House training with Jingle bells! Tie a bunch to the door knob long enough that he can reach and every time you take him out ring the bells. after a few weeks he’ll ring them on his own to let you know he has to go. This worked great with our puppy. Best of luck its so much fun to have a puppy. He’s so young he’s going to need curly to teach him all the doggy behaviors.
What an adorable baby you are so blessed and I have a feeling he will be even more so. I would suggest you get some info on crate training. We have used this method on all of our dogs and it has always brought great success and much less stress. What ever method you use for potty training just be loving and gentle and it will happen before you know it. Good luck and God bless.
Awwww, Joy! What an incredible little baby!!! And I love the name – that’s my middle name! (Even spelled the same way!) I am so excited that you and Ken decided to expand your furbaby family!
