A few weeks a go I finally finish one of the projects I dragged the most, why did it take me so long to tackle? I was hoping I could so it the “easy way” and ask someone for a projector so I could just print and trace my logo in my office wall.

After weeks trying to see who had one, I decided not to wait, just do it the old way. The way I used to make murals while in high school =] I know some of you might be very familiar with this, but who knows maybe someone here does not know how to escalate the old fashion way.

Basically it’s about grid and proportions. You will need pins, chalk, yarn, measuring tape, pencil, a ruler and your graphic printed on a paper.

First you will need to make an outline of the shape you want to transfer, measure with a ruler and divide in small squares (I usually use 1″ squares) then measure your wall and figure where you want your graphic, divide the wall width in the same quantity of squares you have in the paper, use pins to mark all the lines.

After that use yarn to connect all the pins and make your wall grid. I like to use this instead of actually making chalk lines because that way when I draw with chalk on the wall I can erase and the lines will stay there =]

Assign a number to each column and a letter to each row, so that you can locate them easily when drawing. If you have a lot of details on one of the squares, just keep dividing it, that usually makes it much easier!

Once you are happy with how your graphic looks, you can remove the pins and the yarn. paint or just leave the chalk (I considered that but liked the idea of having it more permanent)

I used one two shades of a lighter pink for the logo, and I notice after taking the pictures that i have to retouch some areas (don’t paint so late at night hehe) but overall I am very happy with the way it turn out and I did all the measuring, pinning, drawing and painting in just a few hours!

I only have a few more things to finish before I feel that the office is put-together enough to show you all, so hopefully I’ll get that and a tour done before this baby makes an appearance.
