Have you ever felt the day slipping away from you, weighed down by stress or a sense of overwhelm? The simplest yet most powerful tool to turn things around for me is affirmations (and practicing mindful coloring affirmations)
Every morning, I spend a few quiet minutes repeating my affirmations before diving into the day. This small ritual has become my foundation for positivity, helping me face whatever comes with confidence and clarity.
Affirmations are more than just words; they’re a declaration of intention, a gentle reminder of the strength and positivity that exists within each of us. By thinking things like “I am resilient” or “Today is a fresh start,” I can shift my mindset from doubt to determination.
Affirmations help me stay grounded, focused, and ready for whatever life throws at me. It's such a simple practice, but it can be so meaningful!

What is an affirmation?
Affirmations can be tricky to define. An affirmation is best understood as a kind of mantra; a short sentence, often repeated, that has been formulated to encourage and inspire you.
When you say an affirmation out loud to yourself, you are manifesting your goals, putting them out there into your environment. They are no longer hidden in you and don't make you feel scared or embarrassed.
Your subconscious becomes aware of your determination whenever you say an affirmation out loud. This causes your declaration to influence the decisions you will make for the rest of your day. Morning affirmations are different from meditation. Meditation internalizes what you seek; affirmations externalize what you want for your future. This is the most significant difference between the two practices. If we want inner peace, we don't say it out loud. If we want to make a positive change for the better, we don't sit in a quiet room and think about it.
Affirmations as Tools for Positive Thinking
At their core, affirmations are affirmative statements that are intended to inspire, empower, and energize us. They’re like little pep talks that we give to ourselves, shifting our focus away from negativity and guiding us toward success. Affirmations are an effective way to build self-belief over time because our brains are wired to respond to repetition.
One thing I’ve learned is that the language we use in affirmations matters. For instance, instead of saying “I won't feel stressed today,” say “I will stay calm and focused today.” This difference may seem small, but it’s crucial. Positive words lead to positive thinking, which in turn has an effect on everything from our decisions to how stressed we are.
Set your Affirmations for Success
Here are some helpful tips on how to strategize with personal mantras more effectively.
- Present tense – Affirmations are not the same as goals, so remember not to phrase them that way by talking about things in the future. The best way to make them as effective as possible is by acting as if you have already conquered the behavior. It strengthens your motivation when you tell yourself that you can do this today, do this now! “I am smoke-free” not “I will be smoke-free”.
- Remind yourself of those things that are easy to forget – all it takes is one bad day to throw us off and make us look at the dark side of life. For example, if you feel unrewarded at work and come home to an untidy house, it can be difficult to see things from a brighter perspective. The best affirmation to wake up to the next morning would be something like: “I love my family and respect my co-workers; I know I’m making a difference and that makes me happy.”
- Keeping it real – the number one tip for a successful affirmation would have to be the importance of focusing on realistic changes. You have to choose a statement that you believe is achievable. Don’t reach for the stars if you don’t have a rocket ship. If your morning affirmation is: “I will eat supper before six o’clock today so I can fit in a walk or some gardening before bedtime”, you are guaranteed to lose weight in the long term. This is an easier belief than to say something like: “I will lose two pounds this month.”
Adding Depth to Your Affirmation Practice with Coloring
Affirmations on their own are powerful, but adding a creative touch like coloring can make it even more impactful. When we color, our minds focus on the process, creating a kind of mindful state. This mindful state is perfect for focusing on each affirmation, allowing us to truly absorb its meaning as we relax and create.
By dedicating a brief amount of time each day to coloring affirmations, we create an opportunity for positivity. The benefits of coloring include reducing stress and encouraging a sense of calm, which is reinforced by pairing it with affirmations.
The Benefits of Coloring Affirmations
Combining affirmations and coloring serves two purposes. As we color, we add a layer of mindfulness to our affirmation practice. The words on the page become more than just thoughts—they're visual reminders of our plans and objectives. And by using both our hands and our minds, we reinforce each positive thought on a deeper level.
It has been shown that creative activities like coloring reduce anxiety and promote happiness. Activities like coloring naturally reduce stress and invite focus, helping to calm the mind and amplify the power of affirmations. So by coloring affirmations, you’re not just fostering positive thoughts; you’re also creating a calming daily ritual that improves your well-being.
Combining affirmations with coloring can foster resilience, positivity, and self-belief over time.
Lovely Affirmations and Flowers Coloring Book
While in the middle of COVID-19 back in 2020, I started drawing flowers as a way to cope with all the uncertainty and the emotional toll that all the craziness brought.
While this project started without an end goal in mind, after I had about 30 pages full of flowers and scribbled affirmations, the idea of sharing my pages came to mind. I figured that if creating these pages brought so much calmness to my life, maybe coloring them could bring that same feeling to others.
That’s why I created the Lovely Affirmations & Flowers Coloring Book. Each page is designed to inspire you with beautiful, positive statements and botanical drawings that are both motivating and meaningful.
The book features lovely flowers with enough details to give you hours of coloring relaxation, while reading positive and encouraging affirmations!
I drew this affirmations coloring book!
My newest book, Lovely affirmation & Flowers coloring book
Mindful affirmations with lovely flowers to help you boost self-confidence and self-love. Enjoy hours of relaxing coloring with lovely hand-lettered words and unique flowers carefully hand-drawn with plenty of details. By your truly!
With 46 original drawings, here are a few examples of the affirmations you’ll find:
- “I am surrounded by Love.”
- “I give myself the same care I give to others.”
- “I accept myself exactly as I am.”
I set up this book so it can be shared in the most cost-efficient way, to try to reach as many people as possible. I have it for sale on Amazon, and while they are wonderful when it comes to distribution, the quality of the paper is not the best. So I will not recommend using brush pens with the books, for pencil they are totally fine, though. =]
